During my freelance work in Berlin, I contributed to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of several newspaper apps, all using HTML for layout and display for cross-platform delivery. Native extensions like offline-download, navigation and subscription management were part of the custom NewsFramework. In 2014, Handelsblatt was awarded by Apple as "App Store App of the year (category newspaper)", while the Rheinische Post reached over 30.000 users every day.
Scope of work
- Developed iPad app for one of the biggest newspapers in the Ruhrgebiet
- Handelsblatt iPhone was "App Store App of the Year 2014" in the category Newspapers
- Development of NewsFramework for common epaper requirements like incremental content updates, offline downloads and resource management
- Integration of NewsFramework into multiple iOS newspaper apps, including Handelsblatt, Rheinische Post, Frankfurter Rundschau and others
- Worked on app architecture, modularization, feature development (e.g. SSO or payment), debugging and performance optimization
- Technologies: Objective-C, Swift, HTML/JavaScript, URL Loading System (iOS), (Offline-)Caching, WatchKit, Ad-Integration, Newsstand (iOS), Analytics

Besides my degree as software engineer I am also a professional designer (Dipl. Designer (FH) Multimedia) and often enjoy crafting a logo, layout a flyer or build a homepage, and in the past also my own app ideas. In a digital world it is very rewarding to hold one of your pieces of work in your own hands.
